Frequently asked questions.
WHAT IS PODIATRY?
Podiatry is the study of foot and ankle disorders, in particular issues that cause foot pain!
Anything from traumatic injury to functional problems, issues with disease, diabetes and arthritis, podiatry requires university study and expert knowledge to diagnose and treat a wide range of foot and ankle conditions.
WHY SEE A PODIATRIST?
Why not see a podiatrist? Much like visiting the dentist, you only have one pair of feet in your life so it’s vital that you keep them in healthy shape.
Many foot and ankle problems start off as a minor issue that is very easily fixed, so don’t be afraid to visit North East Podiatry before it progresses into a major problem!
WHAT ABOUT MAJOR TREATMENTS/SURGERY?
Some treatments are too severe and require intervention by an orthopaedic surgeon. We can refer you to a specialist, and then after your surgery we will look after you! Most commonly, surgeons will send their patients to North East Podiatry to be fitted with a cast or shoe to help recovery, and we can also provide advice
and products to assist with your future foot health.
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO BEFORE AN APPOINTMENT?
Come in as you normally are – after work or as normal! You don’t need to go out of your way, we want to see how your feet normally look every day, so that we can make sure we’re giving you treatments and advice that will keep helping you after you leave!
HOW DO ORTHOTICS WORK?
By creating an artificial support or insole, we can change the position that your foot sits while you’re standing or walking. This allows us to reduce the pressure on your knees, ankles, hips and back to prevent pain and assist mobility. Orthotics are just like a cushion for the sensitive parts of your feet, and with our 3D printed options can be sculpted to fit your exact foot!
